Workshops

Write Like a Human – Workshops that teach writers the skills they need to work independently and cooperatively with AI. Take one, take some, take them all!

Each three-hour, in-person workshop focusses on a particular skill that enhances clear communication in any piece of writing. Any document – a briefing note, a report, a proposal, and email – can successfully communicate the message and content when the writer begins to incorporate these strategies of clear communication.

  • Write Clearly: Use language that communicates what readers need to know to understand and act. Topics we’ll cover include: editing the passive voice to the active voice, identifying and editing buried verbs, using specifics, implementing the Stephen King Challenge, avoiding idioms and phrasal verbs.
  • Write Accurately: Understand correct use of the comma, semicolon, and apostrophe. We will debunk some grammar myths and learn that these marks are more user-friendly than many writers typically believe. We will have a lot of time to practice and hone our skills.
  • Write Efficiently: Use planning strategies to ensure quick and effective document creation. In this workshop, we’ll focus on planning strategies, time management, and using AI as an ideas prompt.
  • Write Persuasively: Convince your readers your idea is valuable and worth their time and money. Sell it don’t tell it by understanding the impact of human nature and critical thinking.
  • Write Confidently: Communicate with goodwill, regardless of what the message needs to convey. Writers often unknowingly and unconsciously create tone issues in their communication, even when delivering a positive message, never mind a neutral or negative one.
  • Write Compellingly: Keep readers engaged in your content. Content, language, and format all work together to ensure success in your communication. We’ll review topics such as design, transition, organization and word choice.
  • Write Empathetically: Respect that your audience guides all your decisions related to content, language, and format. For this workshop, we’ll delve in to heuristics, audience analysis, and user testing.
  • Write Accessibly: Know what helps and what hinders your audience. We need to create inclusive communication through our ability to write to an audience that may have visible or invisible barriers.
